- China Mobile and CBC Jointly Launch 25 TV Channels11/18/2010 - 02:45
Guangdong Mobile, a subsidiary of China Mobile, and the national handset TV operator China Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) have jointly launched mobile phone TV and radio services on China’s homegrown TD-CDMA mobile network. Users can pay RMB6 (US$0.9) monthly for the service package including 25 TV channels and 30 radio channels. CBC has acquired mobile rights for the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games as part of the launch and all TD-CDMA mobile phone users in 330 cities can watch the event.
- MOC Launches Crack Down on Online Copyright Infringements11/18/2010 - 02:42
By order of the State Council, the Ministry of Culture (MOC) recently launched a special action on intellectual property protection that will last from October 2010 to March 2011. The action will specifically crack down on the following target areas:
- Copyright infringements on online games, music and animation
- Games and animation featuring pornography and violence against state laws and regulations.
- Those pirated music in music on demand entertainment systems in Karaoke operation places.
- Lip-synch and false performances in music concerts.

November 9 saw video website Tudou.com submit a NASDAQ listing application to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Tudou.com plans to raise US$120 million in its initial public offering (IPO).
Tudou.com made RMB6.62 million (US$999,601), RMB30.94 million (US$4.672 million) and RMB113.2 million (US$17.093 million) respectively in annual income from 2007 to 2009. By Q3 2010, its income for this year totaled RMB224.8 million (US$33.947 million), up 230% year on year, according to its submission materials. Since 2008, its annual net loss has decreased year by year. Q3 2010 saw a net loss of RMB516,000 (US$77,917) and Q4 is expected to see Tudou.com become profitable.
Founded in 2005, Tudou.com has raised US$135 million in its five rounds of financing. Its investors include IDG China, Crescent Point Group, GGV Capital and Temasek Holdings. It has 71.7 million registered internet users by the end of September 2010, 4 times more than the 16.3 million announced at the end of 2007.
