• Zhang Jizhong to Produce IMAX Version of Monkey King

    Director and producer Zhang Jizhong announced his production plans for a new IMAX version of the film Monkey King (Meihou Wang) to the tune of RMB683 million (US$100 million), according to a recent statement released by China Film Group (CFG). Zhang Jizhong, who is currently looking for investors in the project, is famous for his remakes of the TV dramas Dragon Buster (Yitian Tulong Ji) and The Battle Wizard (Tian Long Ba Bu).

    A four day Tunisian Film Screening event opened in Beijing on January 25, reports Sohu. 4 Tunisian films are included in the event: L’ accident, Un ete La goulette, Fleur d’oubli and Par de les rivieres. The Festival is jointly held by the Tunisian Embassy and the State Administration of Radio, Film and TV (SARFT).

    The Beijing Student Film Festival organized by the Beijing Administration of Radio, Film and TV(BRFT) and Beijing Normal University will open in April 2010,reports China Media Web. Films screened from March 2009 to March 2010 qualify for the Festival. The major awards are for Best Actor and Actress, Best Director and Best Feature Film. The Festival will also award student producers of short films.

  • Taobao Sees RMB200 Bln Trade Volume in 2009

    Ahead of its official accounting statement, Chinese online shopping website Taobao has estimated its trade volume will reach RMB200 billion (US$29.28 billion) in 2009, reports China Business News. It also announced on January 25 that it will establish a committee dedicated to carrying out its “Giant Taobao Strategy” which connects with the Business to Business e-commerce site run by Taobao’s parent company Alibaba.

  • Beijing Cultural Bureau: Online Game Rating System This Year

    Beijing will implement a new online game rating system this year, according to Jiang Gongmin, Director of the Bejing Cultural Bureau, reports Beijing Times. The Bureau plans to grade online games into Adults and Teenagers (below 18). The system will require players to enter their ID number before they can start playing. The Beijing Cultural Bureau has also started rating online game production companies, the first step to launch the rating system.
