A weibo post by the CEO of one of China’s most well known production companies CMTC has been making waves in the industry.
The company CEO, Wang Jianfeng, wrote a post alleging that an “unnamed TV research organization” approached him during the production of one of their recent shows offering to “increase its ratings” during broadcast in exchange for a promotion fee.
He noted that the fee offered was RMB16,000 (US$2,582) for a 1% bump in ratings. He went on to note that they offered him proof by showing that another program called “Re Bo Ju Chang” which aired on Xinjiang Satellite TV had a sharp ratings increase from 0.4% to 1.14% by paying the promotion fee.
