Chinese film industry research firm ENT Group released a report noting some film stats for the year thus far. Most have already been covered in previous China Media Monitor’s, however one new stat stood out. According to the report, since the beginning of this year, there have been 90+ film production company mergers. While at the same time, only 10% of films show a profit to the producers with around 40% breaking even and the rest loosing money, which is what seems to be driving the consolidation. There does, however, still seem considerable room for growth with per capita annual film viewing standing at only 0.45.
