Local reports have Shanghai Media Group (SMG) purchasing one of China's indie film companies, Beijing Galloping Horse yesterday. The company is behind such films as Guns & Roses, Eternal Moment and Reign of Assassins.
Galloping Horse's founding CEO Li Ming died earlier this year while reportedly in police custody during a corruption investigation.
Galloping Horse was founded in 1994 and focused on ad sales for a number of CCTV shows before expanding into TV production and then later film.
In 2012 Galloping Horse, together with India's Reliance MediaWorkds aquired bankrupt US VFX company Digital Domain. Galloping Horse sold its stake last year to a Hong Kong stock market-listed shell company, Sun Innovation.
